In keeping with January’s freshness theme – Marisa and I went to Fresh last night.
Fresh is one of the most popular vegetarian restaurants in the city that attracts vegans and carnivores alike. There are three locations in Toronto but we popped into the one on Spadina.
We squeezed into a tight little table amongst the hungry diners around 5:30 p.m. before their crazy line-ups had begun.
Fresh is the perfect place to go on a detox. Most people there aren’t drinking, you have a huge array of healthy vegetable dishes, and it tastes pretty good too.
While I normally like wine with my meal, at Fresh I usually go for the All Greens – a juice packed to the brim with green and no fruit. If you’re avoiding your sugar or just looking for a really clean drink this is your man. The juices start at $5.50 for a regular size and go up to $14.
My favourite dish is the Macro Greens – a giant bowl of steamed vegetables and sweet potato that I devour with added tempeh, tahini sauce and enough hot sauce for tears to run down my face. The Fresh Bowls are abundant and range from 10-16$.
Marisa got the soup and salad combo with cornbread and loved it. Fresh features two soups every day so she happily dug into a corn chowder. Other Fresh Favourites include: Deluxe Burger (veggie), Onion Rings (made with quinoa) and their great big salads.
Hot Tip: Fresh has a special called Refresh Yourself. Any juice and choice of muffin, cupcake, walnut brownie or cookie for $5.75 weekdays between 2:30 – 5:30PM.
Fresh’s Battle Scar:
Food: Fresh, healthy, delicious.
Ambience: A little tightly squeezed and noisy.
Price: Mains are reasonably sized and reasonably priced.
