Clean: Day 1

by Gillian on January 14, 2013

I was pretty flexible with my pre-cleanse.

Saturday night involved more than a few glasses of wine, and I may have slipped in a little Parmigiano in to my arugula salad on Sunday night.  Other than that I did spend 3-4 days removing most allergens and adding some fibre heavy smoothies into my diet to replace certain meals.

I did notice a little shock from my body during this period.  I became extremely bloated and uncomfortable as I have with some previous cleanses.  I reminded myself that this often happens at first as your body adjusts to more fibre and your digestive system is getting fired up.

Today was my first official day on the Clean Program.  I started my day with lemon water and a couple cups of green tea with coconut milk and stevia.  My first cleanse meal was a green juice courtesy of Live.  I picked one up at Whole Foods yesterday knowing I had to make my first cleanse meal as easy as possible.  Thanks to the price tag on these gems, I will likely be making my own from now on, although the ease is enticing.

Throughout the morning I felt really good other than being a little cold.  I drank lots of detox tea and water and tried to get up from my chair at the office every now and then to move.

For lunch I enjoyed Happy Planet Indian Split Pea Soup, a big salad of mixed greens, cabbage, carrots, parsley and avocado drizzled with walnut oil and balsamic vinegar, and some generous handfuls of my favourite goji trail mix.

I was feeling a little tired and emotionally drained when I came home and decided a relaxing night was in order.  A friend called and asked me to come to a fitness class and I declined.

For dinner I whipped up an antioxidant rich smoothie with an Acai smoothie pack, a ton of wild berries, coconut water, fibre, mixed greens and Sun Warrior protein powder.  I ate it out of bowl with a spoon so I didn’t feel like I was being left out of a real dinner.

So far I am really enjoying this cleanse.  It’s forcing me to slow down a bit, take care of my body, and face all of my emotions head on.  I’m already daydreaming a little about a chilled glass of Champagne, but there are plenty of those in my future.  For now, it’s time to sit back, relax, and show my body some love.

I’ll check in every few days to let you know how it’s going.

I’m off to drink some peppermint tea and indulge in some serious quiet time.

I’ve done a couple of three day juice cleanses but am not a huge fan. I love a little protein and I need to chew at least once a day!

I believe you’re supposed to avoid coffee because any stimulants make it harder to restore your nervous system and it can be dehydrating. I look forward to a cuppa when I’m done!
